I have not posted for a while as i have been busy animating this new Christian Aid Week advert. Working with soho based studio FINISH, Directors PAM (Paul, Anthony, Malcom) at 2am and agency SHOP.
I took Pshop illustrations from EBOY into flash where they were animated and then were then all put together with flame by the FINISH flame wizard Jason Watts. I hope you like it, and as always, any comments are welcome...

Nick Jr's Bubble and Squeak
Back in January i worked with Brighton based studio Mind Orchard. The project was to design and animate all the assets for a new Nick JR web-site for a show called Bubble and Squeak, so all the things you see on the site are illustrated/animated by me. This is Bubble and in the show he is a 'real' fella, the other characters are puppets. It was the first web-site i have worked on and i'm kinda proud of how it has turned out... Rocka Billy...
This is the start of something a little bigger. I've been asked by Brighton based Studio Scream Out Loud to come up with a short bit of fun stuff for their website as a kind of calling card for both me and them. The brief is as open as i've ever had and it is that it just has to appeal to a 11-14 boys. I am going to work up this guy and see where it goes, when i have done more i will upload it.Posted by Richard Mitchelson at 12:21 PM 5 comments

Insane Record Attempts...

I have been working on a series for mobstar called 'insane record attempts' we have had a couple of episodes done before but it is nice to be creatively 'in charge'. The backgrounds were done in illustrator and the props are flash. The series is 10x1min and should be available via mobile phones in the next couple of months. Enjoy, any feedback always welcome.

Monseiur Lumiere Sketches...

Here are the early ideas i have for the film following the atmospheric 'Dusk' image below, called 'Mosieur Lumiere'. I was trying characters which looked like the ones below (people who look like 'people') but then decided to go for something a lot more visually descriptive. Any comments are welcome as always, cheers...

fight the power

Here are some images from my most recent (2005) Animator In Residence application... The story is set in early 80's britain where two rival bands (a punk band and a reggae band) must fight Maggie Thatcher, who is turning Britain into mindless drones. Kinda political, but i love the music from that era, The Specials etc and would love to have a soundtrack/score to highlight the music of that time. (rambling now!!!)

One for Oz

Got a call from Beecham in the middle of Oz. He says; 'i got this beat up car and me and benty are painting it like the starsky and hutch mobile' he then wanted a big white vinyl logo for the bonnet, they called the car 'PHOENIX LUCIA' and i never knew why? In the end I did this, which they loved, but had to print it on accetate and stick it on the car, shame really but still makes me smile to think of a massive car with an A4 piece of accetate on it, trying to look cool. Good work boys...

Young Bob and CHUBB

These images are from my channel 4 Animator In Residence Pitch. I was shortlisted (last 7) but not picked for the final 4 that year. I am still continuing to apply. The film was based around this character 'Young Bob' and his struggle to break free of his agraphobia and restricting rules which governed his life. They seemed to like the style.

Faces

Taking Faces i had already drawn i found a group of photos which i also loved for their gritty subject matter. Brining them together was not the original plan but the old woman is very funny...
